Workshop FAQ

Mixing Workshop Frequently Asked Questions

Is my hotel room included?

No, travel and lodging are not included in the workshop registration price.

Where should I stay?

Anywhere in the Hollywood/Burbank/East Valley area of Los Angeles will. Many visitors like the Sportsman's Lodge or the Garland.

Which airport should I fly into?

Burbank (Bob Hope Airport) is more convenient in that it's closer to where we'll be working, but LAX is cheaper. Depending upon traffic, it takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to get from LAX to the Hollywood/Burbank area.

What studio will we be at?

We'll tell you when we know. Studio availability changes so much that sometimes the preferred studios aren't available until the last minute because of lock-outs. It will be someplace pretty cool though.

What do I need to bring?

Bring the mixes to two songs that you've done, as well as the full sessions with all the files. We'll analyze them, then mix at least one of them again during the workshop. You might also want to bring your laptop, if you have authorized plugins that you like to use.

What kind of mixes should I bring?

Bring one mix that you're really proud of, and another that you're having trouble with.

Are we working on a console or in-the-box?

Even though we may be in a studio with a console, most of the work will be done in-the-box.

What DAW will we use?

Mostly Pro Tools, but we may also use Logic or Cubase if it's readily available.

Will you provide meals?

We'll provide lunch on both days (along with a special lunch guest) as well as snacks during the day. For breakfast and dinner you're on your own.

How long are the sessions?

The sessions are at least 8 hours long each day and start at 11AM.

What will you be covering?

We'll analyze your mixes first to see how we can improve what you've already done. We'll also look at how the tracks were recorded to see how that influences the final mix. If we have time, we'll also spend some time on one of my mix sessions, so you can see the differences in both the recording and the mix.

What happens if my plans change and I can't make it?

You have the option to a refund, or to transfer your registration to the next available workshop. If you cancel within 30 days of the event, however, the fee isn't refundable unless we can fill your spot. Please note that bookings cannot be transferred within four weeks of the workshop date.
